Pioneer Service Learning

Congratulations to Ashely Muraco, our February Jefferson Award earner. During her time in high school, Ashley has provided service by creating an on-campus peer support program to guide underclassmen through high school by helping them create bonds with experienced upperclassmen. Ashley created this program to earn her gold award for girl scouts, which is the highest award that they can receive. With the help of the wellness center advisor at Pioneer, Mrs. Hernandez, Ashley collaborated with her for hours each week planning out the details of the various meetings to train the mentors and promote her program. Ashley single-handedly created upperclassmen-underclassmen pairings based on commonalities to ensure they could easily bond. Ashley received a large group of like-minded willing mentors and a good amount of mentees who were attracted by this opportunity. From this experience, Ashley has gained a lot of confidence and leadership skills by putting her thoughts into action and overall making a significant impact on her community.
